CONSTRUCTION
Standard VCP/NDK Layup: fiberglass/diolene/
polyester resin. Both deck and hull are reinforced with core-mat,
which results in very stiff, rigid boats. The surface has a gel-coat,
protecting the laminate from abrasion and UV rays. All boats are
expedition lay-up: reinforced by Diolene (stronger than FG, with
high tensile strength and puncture resistance). Outside seams are
made with fiberglass tape.
VCP ProLite Layup: consists of a single layer
of Carbon/Kevlar interwoven cloth with Diolene and stategic reinforcement
providing a strong, stiff and approximately 10% lighter boat than
the standard fiberglass/Diolene layup.
NDK Elite Layup: provides an approximately
12% weight reduction. The Elite layup includes proprietary Diolene
with selective reinforcements, kevlar/carbon bulkheads, seat and
standard knee tube. Boat also has double deck elastics and custom
padding.
Limited Edition: Carbon / Kevlar / Vinylester
lay-up (using Kevlar/carbon weave and no glass mat) is also available,
resulting in weight saving about 25% - the unique and ultimate sea
kayak!
VCP Polyethylene kayaks: (Skerray and Avocet
) are available in the colors bellow:

OPTIONS & ACCESSORIES
Recessed fittings: These are molded right into
the boat and become an integral part of the deck. They can't
be torn off nor do they protrude above the deck to catch on
anything, including your knuckles when paddling. There are
no holes through the deck to allow water in and the shock
cords are easily replaced. On custom orders, they can be placed
anywhere you like.

Hatches &
Bulkheads: An
important feature of VCP & NDK kayaks is the fitting of
watertight storage
compartments by adding fiberglass bulkheads and watertight
hatches. VCP kayaks are using their own hatches; NDK kayaks
are also using their own 10" hatches and one VCP round
hatch. These hatches are the only watertight hatches available
to date. Fiberglass bulkheads are watertight and permanent,
unlike foam bulkheads used widely by other manufacturers.
With watertight bulkheads no additional flotation is necessary.
All our kayaks are also available with a third bulkhead and
hatch, right behind the cockpit (standard). This arrangement
provides a small " day" compartment just behind the cockpit
with easy access on the sea. VCP kayaks are now equipped with
curved bulkheads which eliminate "hard spots" on the deck.

Fitted Bilge Pump:
Pumps revolutionized deep water rescues and provide an extra
margin of safety. Larger capacity Compac 50 pump is mounted
in front of the cockpit. This pump is installed flush with the
deck and has a detachable handle, which can be stowed in its
own recess. The great advantage of this pump is its easier accessibility
especially during solo rescues, and the higher output. Another
variation is a custom fitted foot pump mounted on the front
bulkhead. |

Compass & Light:
For safety we strongly recommend a compass recess as a deck
fitting. For the fiberglass boats we offer the Nexus 70P compass
which fits the recess in the deck. The compass light with
an electric or chemi-luminescence unit is available separately.
For either glass or polyethylene boats a Nexus 85 compass
can be mounted directly on the forward hatch
cover.
Retractable skeg: All VCP & NDK kayaks (except
Nordkapp HM and Aleut Sea II) are available with a retractable
skeg. The skeg blade is completely enclosed in a watertight
box inside the kayak's rear compartment. This almost fool-proof
system adds a lot of versatility to kayaks. VCP is now using
a new skeg system employing a slider with a mechanism designed
to prevent cable kinking. NDK kayaks come standard with a
roped skeg system, the cable / slider skeg is available on
NDK boats for an additional charge.

 C-Trim Rudder: The C-Trim is
rugged and all parts are designed to preclude the usual wear
points on cables, pintles, etc. The C-Trim rudder comes standard
with the Zolzer steering system. The Zolzer system is mounted
on a track in the center of the hull and both pedals adjust
simultaneously. Cable tension can be fine-tuned via jam cleats
for the most comfortable position. This footbrace never gets
jammed with sand. C -Trim rudder can be added to most sea kayaks.
Note: Foot pump, mounted on bulkhead is not available for boats
with rudder. |
| |
|
Footbraces: VCP and NDK kayaks are available with
following footbraces:
- Yakima footbrace.
- Bulkhead footbrace. It is positioned according to customer's
specification. It could be fitted sloping toward the bow,
if desired. It is also possible to mount the Henderson footpump
directly on the bulkhead in customized position.
- Zolzer steering system for ruddered boats (see above)
|
Sectional Kayaks: All kayaks
are available as 3 piece sectional boats. The joints are placed
at the bulkheads. The sections are joined with SS bolts through
double bulkheads with a double gasket placed in between. These
boats retain the same rigidity as one piece boats, but are heavier.
Pack it in three bags and fly anywhere in the world. |
| |
Personalized towing system: This
system is the best towing rig we have seen. It neatly stows
in a bright nylon bag behind the cockpit and is attached to
the boat through the cam cleat for quick release in an emergency.
Although the towing of a kayak is always quite a chore, this
sophisticated system makes it much easier and safer than other
improvised systems. |
